How Should We Look ad BMI in Adults and Growth Charts in Children
Jan 11, 2021 Season 2 Episode 12
Rebecca Heald and Jeff Ash

What is BMI and how should we interpret the number? What about percentiles on children's growth charts? Should your BMI score immediately give you cause for alarm? Should your child's location on the growth chart be a stern warning that they're headed for a life of obesity if something is not done?

Often these numbers are erroneously used as a diagnostic tool without any or much consideration of the whole, individual person. Your BMI or percentile on the growth chart needs to be used appropriately or it can have a negative impact on eating behaviors or push parents to disrupt their feeding practices with their children resulting in negative outcomes.
